Galway teens in broadcasting project

This Saturday you might be surprised to find that when driving down Dominick Street your car radio suddenly starts broadcasting the voices of teenagers.

This week Galway Arts Centre, with assistance of artist Alan Bulfin and radio producer Deirdre Melvin, will work with young people from Comhairle na nÓg to form a short broadcast entitled What does The Future Hold?

What does The Future Hold? takes place at 2pm this Saturday. This mini FM transmission will feature a mix of young people from Galway city and Dunmore and can be heard along Dominick Street, where the centre is situated.

As well as developing the radio broadcast, the group will also be working together on making the equipment necessary to transmit. For four days prior, the group will be learning about how simple everyday materials can be utilised to create a space on the airwaves for them. The group will also be utilising free editing software to create video works on their mobile phones.

This project is supported by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts and the Galway city and county councils. There will be a screening of the documentation of the project in Dunmore and Galway city next month.
