Something different and outrageous at Kelly’s

KELLY’S PROMISES two very diverse acts this Bank Holiday weekend with shows by the outrageous and surreal The Rubberbandits and the acclaimed DJ duo The Nextmen.

The Rubberbandits play Bulabus tomorrow at 11pm. Band leaders Blindboy Boat Club and Mr Chrome claim that in a previous life they were roadside fruit sellers who were turned on to a life in music by selling mix tapes through local drug dealers.

By all accounts their live show - which mixes comedy, music, and theatrics - is basically a Prime Time special on criminal gangs and the simple pleasure of training a horse to rob a mobile phone. Decide for yourself when you see them.

DJs Ferg and Shane will be on the decks. Admission is €5 before 12 midnight and €10 after.

The Nextmen will play Gigantic on Sunday at 11pm. Brad Baloo and Dom Search are veterans of the sweaty club sets, the festival-stopping performances, and the incendiary mixtape.

In their DJ sets the duo always strive to find the connection between music they love - dancehall, drum’n’bass, instrumental - and hip hop, soul, funk, dubstep, indie, leftfield, ambient, and pop.

Weaving their way on four turntables with mastery and abandon, laced with their own sought after mash-up edits, bootlegs and specials, The Nextmen will certainly get the Kelly’s dancefloor pumping.

Admission is €10/5 and is limited to first 100 people before 12 midnight. See also www.gigantic.ie
