•The Bish Rowing Club recently celebrated its 75th anniversary and to mark this occasion the club is organising a celebration in the Westwood House Hotel on Sunday (October 25 ). • Some 40 sailors from the Galway Bay, Cumann Seoltoireacht an Spideal, and Kinvara Bay sailing clubs competed in the recent GBSC Junior Regatta. In the mixed fleet Aoife Keady and Aisling Bond sailing a 420 won three of the four races to take overall first prize from their fellow clubmates Sam Kinirons (last year’s mixed fleet champion ) and Eoghan Groonell. Cian Geraghty and Cathal O'Conchubhaire from Spideal took third place. In the Optimist gold fleet Jack Collins (GBSC ) was victorious, winning two races and taking the overall prize for a third successive year. Diarmuid Harvey (GBSC ) took second place overall and Rian Conboy (GBSC ) came in third. In the Optimist silver fleet Roisin Jordan (GBSC ) claimed the trophy with two wins. Catherine Brew Quinn (GBSC ) finished second and Fiachra McHugh (GBSC ) was third.

•Judo clubs from the west shone bright at Sunday’s West of Irelands Youth Championship in the Galway Lawn Tennis Club in Salthill. In one of the toughest fights of the day, Cian Garrett from Annaghdown took gold from Abdul Wahab from Tuam Club in the +45kg in the final seconds, while in the <34kg final between Shane Lawless from Tuam and Dermot Croke from Renmore, the fight was finally decided in the closing seconds of extra time where Lawless took gold.
