The owner of a city store has recently won the national body building championships, and regained the title he won last year of Mr Ireland.
David Geler who runs the Vitamin Shop on Francis Street said: “It feels great to be Mr Ireland again, customers come to me for good advice, and my title is important for them. I use the supplements I sell so I know what to recommend.”
The Polish native has been living in Galway for five years, and has been training as a professional bodybuilder for the last 12 years.
Preparation for the competition takes up to 12 weeks following a strict diet, and spending up to an hour and a half in the gym. He says that diet is the key to success, and is the most important part of any bodybuilder’s training. “Typically during training we must spend about two hours every morning in the kitchen making our meals for the day, you can not eat bread, fast food, or fizzy drinks, everything has to be natural”. Geler says training is difficult with a mixture of weights and cardio to ensure body fat is reduced, and muscles are in good condition. During the 12 week intensive programme Geler will typically drop from 90 to 80 kilos in order to be in top condition for the competition.
Mr Ireland offers personal training, as well as working as a personal training tutor at the Profi fitness school in Dublin.
