A Rahoon woman who has been charged with commiting alleged arson two years ago was granted bail at Galway District Court yesterday.
Veronica Mcanaspie (43 ) with an address at 38 Tulach Ard, Rahoon, was brought before Judge Mary Fahy after being charged yesterday morning with commiting arson to a semi-detached house, no 38 Tulach Ard, completely destroying it by fire, contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act, on November 28, 2007.
Giving evidence of arrest, charge, and caution, Garda Darragh Ainsworth told the court that Mcanaspie had been arrested at 9.15am before the court sitting and that in reply to the charge she had said: “I did not do it”.
Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to the matter being dealt with summarily in the District Court on a plea of guilty only.
On the matter of the bail application defence solicitor Valerie Corcoran said that her client has never been a flight risk and had attended voluntarily by appointment at Galway Garda Station.
Judge Fahy made an order for statements and remanded the defendant on her own bail of €300 to appear at Galway District Court on November 18 next with conditions that she remains sober, continues to attend all medical appointments, and takes any prescribed medication.
