Galway celebrated All Ireland success this week with the intermediate camogie players claiming this year’s honours in Saturday’s replay over Cork at McDonagh Park, Nenagh.
Three weeks ago the two sides drew 0-15 to 2-09 after Galway allowed Cork back into the match, but on Saturday the Galway team did not let it slip again, finishing convincing and deserved winners.
Galway showed their intent from the start and were ahead by 1 - 6 to 1- 2 at the interval with Laura Mitchell scoring the vital goal on 24 minutes. However Cork responded immediately and got one back from Emer Watson to keep the Leesiders in contention going into the second half.
However that was as good as it got for the Cork side as Galway came out with all guns blazing in the second half. Two more goals from Aoife Lynskey and Caroline Murray on 36 and 43 minutes put the game beyond Cork’s reach, ensuring Galway captain Caroline Kelly lifted the Jack McGrath trophy.
