Oughterard butcher wins national award

Bill Morgan of Roger Finnerty’s butchers, Oughterard has demonstrated his reputation for quality by attaining top awards in the national sausage and puddings awards.

Billy and his team at Roger Finnerty’s have again won the top award for the traditional sausage category; Ireland’s favorite food.

This is Finnerty’s fourth national award having won the Traditional Sausage category in 2004, and 2006 and the White Pudding Award in 2006 as well.

The Association of Craft butchers of Ireland chief executive Pat Brady said that this represented a degree of consistency that could only be achieved by maintaining the highest standards. Mr Brady pointed out that every year the competitors have to come through regional events and then the national finals, where different judges asses the products.

Morgan has shown his skill as an artisan in winning first prize for his traditional pork sausage, and puddings in past competitions. His record in the traditional pork sausage have never been surpassed by other craft butchers, with him holding the title of most awarded traditional pork sausage butcher in Ireland.
