Compántas Lir holds its Autumn Theatre next week

Theatre lovers in the Claregalway Carnmore area are set for a treat next week when Compántas Lir holds its much anticipated Autumn Theatre.

Running for four nights from Tuesday October 20 to Friday October 23 at the Carnmore Community Centre, patrons can enjoy the double bill of one-act plays with wine and refreshments served at the interval

The event, which is a sell-out success for the group each year, this year features two hilarious comedies – Slander produced by multi award-winning producer Brid Conneely; and Bang, You're Dead which is produced by award-winning actor Dermot Hession.

Slander is based around a circle of five women in a village who just can't cope without gossip. It features Breda Hannon, Mary McCarthy, Fionnuala Glynn, Ann Moran, Brid Conneely, Kate McCarthy and Mick O'Dwyer.

In Bang, You're Dead, Lydia Spink is not happy in her marriage. But she can't just leave Theo, her husband, for fear she won't get all his money! So she decides to enlist her lover to stage a burglary and shoot Theo. Will it all go to plan? It stars Grainne Ni Alluin, Joe O'Connell, Clement Shevlin, and Mairead Duffy.

The Autumn Theatre is the main fundraiser for the successful Compántas Lir drama group which earlier this year finished a creditable second in the All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals with their acclaimed production of Johnny Belinda.

The group is about to start rehearsals for its 2010 season which will see experienced producer Philip Cribbin direct its performance of Bernard Farrell's comedy I Do Not Like Thee, Dr Fell.

Tickets for the Autumn Theatre are on sale now at €12.50 and can be reserved by contacting Ruth O'Driscoll at 085 1154715 or by contacting group members. The performances begin each night at 8.30 and there is ample parking at the venue.
