Gardaí appeal for witnesses after St Augustine Street assault

The Gardaí at Mill Street are appealing to the public for information which may help them track down two thugs who viscously assaulted a young man who was walking along St Augustine Street on Saturday night.

As part of their investigations Gardaí are also examining CCTV footage from the St Augustine Street area in an effort to help them track down the two men.

The 25-year-old victim of the assault was walking alone in the St Augustine Street area when he was assaulted and concussed before being robbed. The attack took place shortly after 11pm and the victim suffered a severe blow to the face which concussed him. In the aftermath of the attack a set of keys and a mobile phone were stolen.

The victim was removed by ambulance to Galway University Hospital for emergency treatment. He was released on Sunday after being treated for suspected fracture to his cheek bone.

Gardaí believe the assault was a random attack that was entirely unprovoked. They also believe the two culprits may have left the scene in the direction of the Spanish Arch area.
