THE RESURGAM chamber choir will explore the world of the spirit and the sacred with Anglican, Russian Orthodox, and devotional music and song in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church this Sunday at 8pm.
For this concert Mark Duley, conductor of Resurgam chamber choir, has engaged the servies of Adrian Peacock, a ‘low note’ specialist as the Rachmaninov portion of the programme has many very low notes.
The highlight of the programme is excerpts from Rachmaninov’s 1910 ‘Liturgy of St John Chrysostom’, a monumental work from the Russian Orthodox tradition.
Also included are two seminal settings of the ‘Cherubic Hymn’ from the early 19th century - (Dmitri Bortnianksy ) and late 20th century (Krysztof Penderecki ).
There will also be music from the Anglican cathedral tradition with performances of William Harris’ ‘Bring Us O Lord God’ and ‘Faire Is The Heaven’ and Francesco Guerrero’s sonorous triple-choir ‘Duo Seraphim.
Judith Bingham’s ‘Gleams Of A Remoter World’ (1997 ) receives its Irish premiere, along with ‘Spring’, a movement from her The Shepheardes Calendar (2006 ).
Tickets are €20/15 at the door and from Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop.
