Get reading and help raise money for MS

The MS READaTHON, which takes place this month, is a chance for Galway schoolchildren to help raise money for Multiple Sclerosis by reading books.

The sign-up period for this year’s readathon is under way, with the reading period running from October 16 to November 16.

Over the years Galway children have always taken a major part in the readathon. Last year 1,519 children in Galway took part in the campaign.

Galway has been great in the past, and this year we’re hoping to make this the biggest MS READaTHON ever,” said Cheryl Gunning, MS READaTHON manager. “Join our team of readers and help us help people with MS. Not only will you be helping those with MS, but each participant also receives a thank you gift and a certificate.”

Thank you gifts include a Nintendo DS, a Nintendo Wii, and a certificate of appreciation. Children will also have the chance to win a laptop, a trip for two to see Manchester Utd play at Old Trafford, a digital camera, or a mountain bike with helmet.

Schools can compete for the Winning Schools trophies and for thousands of euros worth of books with which to update their school libraries. In addition, 10 per cent of the money raised in each school can be kept to buy books or reading aids for the school.

Children can sign up through their school, directly via the website www.msreadathon.ie, or by calling 01 - 6781600. See also www.ms-society.ie
