Sylane 1-1
Liam Mellows have won this year’s Galway u-16C camogie championship after seeing off a spirited Sylane in Raheen, Athenry on Sunday.

With Niamh Elwood and Derbhill Greaney controlling the midfield and Rebecca Palmer covering every blade of grass, Mellows continued to press. When the city side was awarded a 30m free, Sarah Gilchrist converted to put Mellows 1-2 in front.
Sylane got on the scoreboard from their inspirational midfielder, but the Mellows’ response was immediate when Grainne Farrell struck for the side’s second goal. Sylane, however, bounced back and were rewarded just before half time with a goal to leave the half time score Mellows 2-2 Sylane 1-1.
Mellows, with the wind at their backs, were again quick off the mark. An excellent long-range free from Claire Minton and quick goals from Emer Larkin and Grainne Farrell gave Mellows a strong advantage.
Sylane did have their chances, but Aoife McPeake made two excellent saves and when Rebecca Palmer was on the end of another Claire Minton clearance, she scored the final goal to ensure Mellows claimed this year’s trophy.
