THE CUNNINGHAM family from Cashel, Connemara, have played their part in the revival sean nós dancing has enjoyed these last number of years.
Going under the title The Cunningham Sound - Brian, Irene, Ashline, Michael, and Lorraine - will continue to champion sean nós dance and Irish music, as well as sing folk songs in English, in the Town Hall Theatre on Wednesday October 7 at 8pm with their show Fuaim Connemara/The Sound of Connemara.
“We have lots of lively music, mesmerising dances, wonderful singing, and even a few surprises,” said producer Brian Ó Cuinneagáin. “There is something for everyone in this show. We will also have a whole host of special guests on the night.”
Sean nós dancing is an improvisational, low to the ground, rhythmic dance style in which the performer is free to interpret the music. It is believed that American tap and Appalachian clog dancing can trace their heritage back to the Irish sean nós style.
