Éamon Ó Cuív, Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, has sanctioned three substantial grants for the Galway Gaeltacht area.
A grant of €104,300 has been sanctioned to assist the GAA’s Comhairle Chonnacht in further developing its training scheme in the Gaeltacht areas of Conamara and Árainn.
Under this scheme, trainers visit Gaeltacht schools, both primary and post-primary, in Conamara and Árainn on a regular basis, teaching football and hurling skills. They work with the same players again over the weekend when the various clubs host training sessions.
Minister Ó Cuív has also sanctioned €11,434 to Coiste Halla Éinne to carry out maintenance work on Halla Éinne, An Cheathrú Rua, Co Galway. The maintenance will involve health and safety works. The final grant sanctioned for the areas is one of €7,813 to Naíonra Cois Cuain, Eanach Dhúin, Co Galway, to enable them to refurbish Ionad Pobail Eanach Dhúin and to install fire extinguishing equipment.
