THE WEST of Ireland is about to become a busy place for filmmaking over the coming months so now is a good time to enrol in a Galway Film Centre course.
Brendan Gleeson will star in The Guard while Galway’s Magma Films is producing a TV pilot, Jack Taylor, to be shot around Galway city. It is hoped these productions will bring employment and revenue to the region.
For those with camera experience, there is a course on October 10 and 11, on broadcast quality cameras (DigiBeta, Sony EX1 ). The Sony EX1 is now the required format for shooting for RTÉ. This course is tutored by Ger Conway, who has worked on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
For screenwriters, the Idea to Script course takes place over six Tuesday evenings, starting on October 6. The tutor, Ivan McMahon, is also available by email during the week. He will shortly be directing an Irish Film Board funded short film, which he co-wrote.
There is also a five Tuesday evening Introduction to Filmmaking course for those who want to learn about the basic elements of filmmaking and make a film in the process. Tutor Paul Murphy is an experienced filmmaker, whose films have won awards on the festival circuit.
The class sizes for all courses is six. For further information or to book a place, contact Mary on 091 - 770748 or email [email protected]
