Enjoy some tasty Italian films

ITALIAN FOOD is consumed, enjoyed, and celebrated the world over and Galwegians will be able to enjoy Italian cuisine and films about Italian food at NUI, Galway next week.

On Wednesday September 30 the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at NUI Galway will present A Taste of Italy - food and film. The event starts at 7pm and will take place in the Orbsen Building in NUIG.

The evening will start with the screening of a selection of short Italian films based on food production in Italy and the unique relationship that Italians have with their food.

The films to be screened include: Da Annamaria: Tagliatelle e Buona Notte al Secchio. This documentary tells the story of the Annamaria restaurant in Bologna. It has been serving the same dishes for over 30 years, defending the Bologna tradition of handmade pasta.

In the comedy Il Senso Delle Vite, a girl in a café recounts the story of her quirky obsession with collecting to a stranger. Uno Degli Ultimi is a portrait of Mauro Selvetti, a 78-year-old peasant who harvests olives, grapes, and cherries on his picturesque farm.

Following the screenings, there will be an opportunity to taste the best of Italian food from Olio & Farina, Magnetti Foods, Il Folletto, Da Robertas, Basilico Restaurant in Oranmore, Thomas Woodberry Wines, Illy Caffé, and Sheridans Cheesemongers.

Admission to the event is free and all are welcome. For more information contact Anne O’Connor on 091 - 493794 or email [email protected]
