GALWAY CINEMA buffs, along with movie connoisseurs from 114 other cities across four continents will unite to view and judge the next generation of filmmakers at the 11th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival.
Out of 429 entries received from 42 countries around the world, Manhattan Short selected 12 finalist films each of which is 16 minutes or under. These films will be screened in the Town Hall Theatre on Sunday September 28 at 3pm.
Those attending the screening will be handed a voting card upon entry and asked to vote for the film they feel should win. Votes are tallied at each cinema and forwarded to the festival’s Manhattan headquarters where the winner will be announced at 9.15pm in New York and posted on www.ManhattanShort.com by 10pm
The films being screened are Ripple (Britain ) - a random act of malice forces an ordinary man off the safe road and on to a dark journey he’ll never forget; Ode Ober (Holland ) - a waiter ponders the concept of life beyond the doors of the restaurant; Rachel (USA ) - a suburban couple meet the pregnant young woman whose baby they are adopting.
Teat Beat of Sex (USA ) - this cartoon takes a look at first sex exclusively from a girl’s point of view; Sour Milk (Israel ) - looks at the 1929 Arab attack on Jews in British Mandatory Palestine; New Boy (Ireland ) - the only thing harder than Joseph’s first day of school in Ireland was his last day of school in Africa.
Mother Mine (Britain ) - Alison tries to track down her natural mother after the death of her adoptive mother; Make My Day (Denmark ), when a doctor turns out to be the guy who bullied his father in school days, a child takes matters into his own hands; The Game (New Zealand ) - Monty and Lazlo, face off in this dark watery underworld, in a surreal match neither can afford to lose.
Change Coming (Australia ) - a true to life drama set on a farm; Viva Sunita (India ) - late at night a man stops under the window of an apartment and begins calling for Sunita, then a crowd joins him and beings to do the same; The Golden Thread (India ) - when bonds are created between people, they can become what we need to survive.
