Active retired encouraged to be bowled over

A ‘Bowlathon’ for Positive Ageing Week is to be held on Monday week by The Village Nursing Care Centre. In conjunction with City Limits, The Village Care Centre will sponsor a bowling day out for members of local active retirement groups.

The event will take place at City Limits during Positive Ageing Week on Monday September 28 from 1.30pm and is free of charge.

City Limits have offered exclusive access to the bowling area for the event and will provide coaching and assistance for those who require it.

“Bowling is an excellent activity for all ages and capabilities so even if you have never bowled before you shouldn’t let this hold you back”, commented Eileen Keleghan, Event Coordinator for The Village Care Centre.

“We hope to see many representatives from each of the local active retirement groups, and even those who don’t wish to bowl can come along and meet up with members of their own and other active retirement groups” she added.

Positive Ageing Week is a festival which highlights the positive aspects of ageing and celebrates the contribution older people have made and continue to make to their communities.

The central aim of Positive Ageing Week is to dispel the many negative perceptions that surround ageing and to transform attitudes towards ageing and older people. We need to celebrate the fact that we are living longer, that ageing is not a burden but an opportunity.

Another event taking place at The Village Care Centre to mark Positive Ageing Week is a ‘Musical Tea Dance’ which will be held on Thursday October 1 from 2.30pm.

To register your group for the Bowlathon or Musical Tea Dance call The Village Care Centre on 091 77 77 00 before September 18. For further details on all upcoming events go to www.thevillagecare.ie
