Fine for man for theft of cable

A man who pleaded guilty to his part in the theft of €500 worth of cable from an Eircom yard in Claremorris was convicted and fined €100 at Claremorris District Court this week.

Padraig Fahy, Murragh, Merlin Park, Galway pleaded guilty to the charge in court. Garda Golden told the court that on April 17 2009 at 12.07am she was on patrol in Claremorris and was driving down Convent Road, where she saw a van driving out of the Eircom yard. She stopped the van and when she searched it found €500 worth of cable in the back, which had been placed in a skip for recycling in the yard. Fahy and a co-accused (who failed to appear in court ) were in the van at the time, and the cable was recovered. Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Fahy €100.
