Maree pipped in the final

Having retained the u-20 title the previous week, it was the turn of Maree Basektball Club’s u-18s to defend the Michael Heffernan Memorial Cup om Cork.

They came close, advancing to the final, but in the end they had to give way to a very good Éanna side from Dublin.

While Maree had disposed of Blue Demons with a comfortable 56-40 semi-final win, Éanna had edged Ballincollig 44-37.

The Dubliners started stronger and built up a 10-point lead that Maree simply could not reduce despite a never-say-die approach to the final buzzer. In the end the cup headed Liffey-side, on a 47-32 final score.

Drawn in a tough group, Maree had overcome Neptune of Cork by 41 - 38, Tramore of Waterford by 42 – 37 win and posted an impressive 54 – 19 win over Glanmore.

Pitted against Blue Demons in the semi-finals, Maree produced their best performance of the day. Never taking their foot off the gas, they led 21– 8 at the half and went on to claim a comfortable 56-40 win.
