The new Aldi store, which opened last week in Ballinasloe, has created 15 jobs in the town.
The facility, which is located at the Dunlo town centre development, is the sixth such store to open in County Galway. The first opened nine years ago at the Westside Retail Park. Aldi opened its first store in Ireland in 1999 and today has 69 dotted around the country.
A spokesperson for the company says it has further expansion plans for its operations throughout Ireland.
The company’s rapid growth has been achieved by its continued adherence to a very single-minded company philosophy, she says.
“Aldi offers the customer a carefully selected range of high quality exclusive own label brands at prices, on average, 30 per cent cheaper than the market. These discounted prices are guaranteed week in, week out.”
More than 40 per cent of grocery sales at Aldi are on products bought from Irish suppliers.
“Aldi provides a top quality grocery offering at the lowest possible prices - typically 30 per cent cheaper than the market. It operates an Irish buying department committed to sourcing as much of its product range from Irish suppliers as possible.
“Over 40 per cent of the groceries sold at Aldi are now sourced from Irish suppliers. This includes all the fresh beef, pork, lamb and poultry along with eggs, spring water, soft drinks, cakes, yogurts and artisan cheeses. Local suppliers include the Tuam based company Loughnane’s of Galway, who supply Aldi with sausages and pudding.”
To mark the opening of Aldi’s new store in Ballinasloe it has an extensive range of special opening offers including a 16” notebook for €599, a 26” HD television for €329, an exercise bicycle for €129 and a satellite navigation system for €149. Other offers include a HD camcorder for €89.
