Galway Garda 1-08
Boston Scientific 0-05
Galway Garda reigned supreme once more when they had six points to spare over a gallant Boston Scientific in the Galway Interfirms Championship Final played at a rain-lashed Mervue GAA grounds on Monday night.
The pitch survived a late inspection and it was the physically strong Garda side that mastered the conditions better. Although Boston started brightly, the Garda were always on top and the result was never in doubt.
Playing against the breeze in the opening half, Boston opened with two points inside six minutes from Kevin Keane and Danny Tuck. The Garda were soon level with two Cormac Bane frees, and more points from Bane and Niall Lydon (2 ) opened up a three-point lead for the Garda. Both sides exchanged points as the Garda went in at half time three points clear, 0-06 to 0-03.
The Garda never let Boston back into the match, and soon extended their advantage when Cormac Bane converted a close-in free. Boston never threatened the Garda goal and victory was assured when Shane Prendergast slotted home from close range with 10 minutes remaining.
After the match chairman for the Connaught Council Joe Flynn presented the Bowmaker Cup to the Garda captain Pat Kelly.
