Waist not, want not

Sharp shoulders, military detailing and a sprinkling of sequins marks the arrival of autumn /winter at high street brand Awear at Edward Square.

Think architectural shoulders and strong cuts as the jacket returns to take centre stage this season. Tailoring is structured and sharp as glamorous knitted day dresses are balanced by neatly defined waists. The season promises to excite with clear attention to detail and must-have statement pieces seen across the entire collection.

This season, the hero piece for your wardrobe is a trophy jacket. It’s the last thing you put on but the first thing everyone sees. A drummer boy jacket with bold tennis ball shoulders ushers in this trend. This is followed swiftly by peaked shoulder jackets and blazers. Leather is also a key trend with 100 per cent leather military styles for €120 and draped leather styles to follow later in the season.

The full sequin blazer jacket also arrives in all its glittering glory for early autumn worn over pretty printed dresses with pixie style boots for a tougher edge. Waistcoats also return with a smattering of sequins and studding embellishment to add a point of difference. This month the store launches its coat promotion with fabulous winter white, black and pink heavy wool coats for just €50.

The knitted boyfriend cardigan in all its guises supports your wardrobe from day to night this season. From logo detailing to glitter and animal prints, A|wear has it covered with prices from as little as €20. Watch out for the statement knitted cape in an autumnal palette of grey, teal and navy and the box style sequin knitted jacket in taupe - perfect for updating any little black dress this winter.

The shop’s dress collection is full of sparkle and fun with extended shoulder details and rich fabrics. The colour palette is strong with deep florals and flashes of kaleidoscope brights. One shoulder dresses with a chic 80s feel are making their presence felt and the military influence is also seen in the short navy style shift dress with gold button detailing. Closer to the festive season jacquards and doll-like silhouettes are key to taking you through Christmas with panache.

The jumpsuit is here to stay for autumn with added ruffle front detailing and elasticated hems. Also watch out for the shorter style playsuits in animal prints. They can be worn with a fitted blazer for a touch of sophistication. The skinny trouser is a popular look teamed with a check shirt or a floral print T-shirt. For the fashion savvy, the harem style pant will continue to bubble under throughout autumn.

The spotlight falls firmly on the waist this season as coats are accompanied by wide and buckled leather belts to define one’s look. This autumn, with the launch of Coco Chanel, chain detail straps and quilting are key, seen across bags and wallets in lots of different colours and prints. The trend for studding and rivets - hot from the catwalk - is also important seen across oversized bags so be sure to add a key piece to your autumn wardrobe.
