Music For Galway concert season launch

MUSIC FOR Galway’s 29th International Concert Season will be launched on Tuesday September 8 at the Galway City Museum by Professor William Schaba, director of the Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI, Galway.

Music on the night will be provided by Galway Ensemble in Residence Apprentice quartet: The Soundpost Quartet. As part of the new programme the Galway Ensemble in Residence has announced that the resident quartet, Con Tempo, will perform at venues across the county in September for its first festival tour.

The four-day event will begin on the Aran Islands and make its way back to the heart of the city, bringing new music to new audiences along the way.

The tour will begin at Áras Éanna on Inis Oírr on Thursday September 3 before travelling to Amharclann Chois Fharraige in Inverin, Teach Ceoil in Renvyle, and the Gort Public Library. The final concert of the tour will take place on Sunday September 6 in St Nicholas’ Church in Galway city.

The talented classical guitarist John Feeley will join the quartet for this finale event and together they will perform ‘The Carolan Suite for Guitar and String Quartet’, which he arranged for Con Tempo and recently recorded for Lyric FM. The works of Haydn and Mendelssohn will also feature at this performance. The ‘Boccherini Guitar Quintet’ is expected to provide a suitably rousing end to what promises to be a most enjoyable night and a momentous tour for the Galway Ensemble in Residence.
