The shops are now bursting with the new season’s stock, so I’ve come up with a few key autumn pieces to consider when updating your wardrobe this autumn.
Balmainia: This season’s key look is rock n’ roll glamour, from distressed jeans to lots of sequins, but it is Balmain’s pointy shoulder jackets and dresses that will go down in fashion history. Try it with winter shorts; the big thing this season is the tights-with-shorts combination. This key look comes in an assortment of fabrics, from wool to leather. To wear this trend for work, team with smart trousers and at night swap it for a pair of leather leggings.
1940s: Classic ladylike chic that never goes out of fashion!
Fashion architecture: Bold geometric patterns, adventurous shapes, sharp tailoring, strong cuts.
Paris oh la la! Think rock mixed with a little romance! Lots of lace, silk ruffles, bows, and satin. The trick is to stay on the sophisticated side of sexy!
1980s bright: It is a trend to have fun with or at least introduce in a small way. Think bright satin dresses, lots of embellishment, disco doll frocks, polka dots, patterned tights, colours, and over the tops prints... the list goes on.
Long sleeve mini dress: And sequin detail and all things glittery will still be big news this autumn/winter. If you’re going to buy one dress this season, make it a mini with long sleeves. You’ll have plenty of choice in fabric too, from sequins to zips and studs, or simply one shouldered.
Red and purple are the colours of the season. Just make sure to chose the shade that suits your complexion best, ie, if you are a light complexion (blonde hair and fair skin ) a lighter shade of red and purple will suit best.
Leather and sequins: These are everywhere for autumn/winter! The leather jacket is a great way to add some edge to your wardrobe for work, rest, or play, while sequin pieces can effortlessly be worn by day or by night.
Sequin top available at New Look.
Florals: Deep, dark, prints to fun florals with lots of opulent accessories!
