Bearna/na Forbacha minor hurlers have advanced to the preliminary quarter-finals after ovecoming Portumna in their final championship game last week.
This crucial game decided which team would advance from the group, and it was Bearna who edged the contest by a single point, 0 - 13 to 0 - 12.
Conditions were poor in Craughwell with mist and rain tormenting the players throughout, but Bearna/na Forbacha started well with the first point of game scored after one minute by Richard Concannon. Greg Sheedy played his usual game and scored four points in the first half, while Conor King, Padraic Ó Gráinne, and Enda Keane added to the scoresheet to leave Bearna/na Forbacha with a four-point lead at half time, 0-8 to 0-4.
Portumna, however, were not going to give in easily, and they seized the initiative and scored point after point to put them into the lead. With seconds left on the clock Sheedy scored a great point from a free before full forward Stephen Mc Comiskey caught a ball coming in and put it over the bar just as the whistle was blown.
