Renowned Irish Times journalist and poet Gerard Smyth will be on hand to officially launch the 2009 Clifden Community Arts Week programme which boasts an unforgettable line-up of national and international talent.
The exclusive preview of this year’s festival will take place at 6pm on Monday next August 31 in the Courtyard Marriott Hotel.
The festival, which is now in its 32nd year, will include readings by the highly acclaimed Irish poets Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon, and Michael Longely, side splitting comedy with RTE’s The Panel star Colin Murphy, visual arts by the Fidget Feet Theatre Co, and musical performances by Irish American Celtic sensations Cherish the Ladies, a capella choir Anúna, and the classic vocal and instrumental repertoire of pianist Funghin Collins and cellist Christian Benda.
Now in its 32nd year, the country’s longest running community arts festival takes place from Thursday September 17 to Sunday September 27.
Clifden Community Arts Week has grown to become an eagerly anticipated event, which brings a wonderful air of excitement to Clifden and the surrounding area every autumn. This year’s festival boasts a wide range of artistic forms including theatre, comedy, children's shows, dance, all genres of music, exhibitions, readings and lectures.
