No 4 Drop-in Centre, a project managed by Galway Diocesan Youth Services, is to receive the Health Quality Mark, Gold Standard, at an award ceremony this week.
This quality mark is awarded to organisations which meet certain criteria which are set out by the NYHP, and based on best practice in health promotion at regional and national level.
In 2003 No 4 was awarded the silver standard award and this year the service aimed for and successfully achieved the highest quality gold standard award, a fitting tribute to the professionalism of the staff who work in and manage the centre.
The drop-in centre was set up in the late seventies to cater for the daytime needs of homeless young people in Galway. It works with young people between the ages of 15 and 25 years and provides a range of practical support services as well as being a safe place for young people to spend time in Galway city. The centre is staffed by a team made up of professional and voluntary workers who aim to assist young people at challenging times in their lives. The drop-in centre will host an open morning on Thursday September 10 between 10.30am and 1pm, all are welcome.
