THIS YEAR’S Cruinniú na mBád festival is scheduled to take place this weekend, commemorating the traditional maritime links between Kinvara and Connemara.
An tAmhrán Beo will host its 21st annual concert during the weekend, offering the best of traditional singing in both languages.
The concert takes place this year at the Johnston's Hall, Kinvara (opposite Tully's ), on Saturday, at 8.30pm. The MC for the night is Seán Ó hÉanaí of Raidio na Gaeltachta. Among those participating in this year's concert are Connemara singers Nan Tom Taimín de Búrca, Mary Ellen Ní Fhatharta, Máire Phetair Ní Dhroghneán, Naisrín Elsafty, Tomás Mac Eoin, Seosamh Ó Flatharta; from Cork is Con Fada Ó Driscoil and from Crusheen, Co Clare; Robbbie MacMahon. There will also be music from Eileen Fleming, Gaie Stewart, and Frank Hall with sean nós dancing from Séamas Devanney and his grand-daughter Natasha Ní Fhlatharta. A great night is guaranteed with an informal singing session planned for later in the evening.
