THE COLOGNE New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra will perform at the Town Hall Theatre on Monday at 8pm,
with a diverse programme ranging from Vivaldi and his tremendously famous ‘Four Seasons’ to Mozart, Bach, and Tchaikovsky.
The orchestra was founded in 1972, and its membership is mainly composed of graduates of the most important German conservatoires. Upon finishing their studies, many wish to experience the reality of a playing chamber music and symphonic repertoire at a high level before furthering their careers as soloists or as members of full-time professional orchestras. The Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra is, in essence, a chamber orchestra comprising soloists, which expands several times a year to a full symphony orchestra.
The orchestra is self-managed and is one of the very few groups in Germany to operate entirely without subsidy. Its aim is to inspire people who may not necessarily have come into contact with classical music before. With this in mind the group has over the years, developed its own highly individual style of interpretation. Monday’s performance will see the orchestra perform Vivaldi - The Four Seasons, Mozart - Divertimento in D Major KV 136 »Salzburg Symphony«, Handel - »’Hence, Iris, hence away’« for Oboe and Orchestra HWV 58, Tchaikovski - »‘Nocturne« for Violoncello and Strings’, and Bach - Concerto in C Minor for Violin, Oboe and Orchestra BWV 1060.
Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777.
