The Maree community barbecue takes place on Saturday August 29 to raise funds for much needed new sports facilities in the area. The barbecue promises to be a night of wild dancing to the Conquerors following a top class meal of premium steaks, meats and salads. The barbecue begins with a drinks reception at 9pm in Maree Community Centre.
Planning permission has been obtained for the development of additional sports facilities behind Maree Community Centre. These facilities will benefit both the local community and the adjoining national school.
Phase one of the development comprises a natural playing field, changing facilities and upgrading of the current sewerage system. This phase is scheduled for completion during summer 2010 at a cost in the region of €240,000.
Phase two consists of an all weather field which may be achievable following the completion of Phase One. Maree Community Development Association is working towards achieving this goal by holding fundraising events such as this year’s barbecue.
