Galway’s Mr Gay — it could be you

Galway pride is to set to be the first Pride festival to host a heat of the Mr Gay Ireland contest.

The Mr Gay Pride Galway contest will be held as part of the annual Galway Gay Pride Festival running until August 23.

The contest will have a number of categories featuring formal wear, casual wear, and swim wear as well as an interactive process enabling contestants to display any talent they have such as musical numbers dance routines.

The contest will take place in two venues tomorrow night with initial rounds taking place in ‘Bar Pride’ and then moving on to the main venue, The Black Box Theatre, on the Dyke road.

This is the 20th anniversary of the Gay Pride Festival in Galway, which sees thousands of visitors flock to the city to take part in a parade, party in the park, the Rose of Pride pageant and now the Mr Gay Pride Galway contest.

Mr Gay Ireland is a nationwide community civic and social project designed to overcome negative stereotypes of gay people, and to encourage civic and social action for HIV/aids among contestants and friends. In total more than 70,000 euro has been raised through the project for HIV/aids and LGBT charities.
