Two arrested in Galway following night of violence in Ballinrobe left four injured

Two men have been arrested in Galway following a series of attacks in Ballinrobe at the weekend.

The two men were among four arrested yesterday following searches in counties Mayo, Galway, and Sligo. Three men, all in their twenties, were arrested during searches early yesterday while the fourth man, also in his twenties, was arrested in Galway city yesterday afternoon.

The men were last evening being questioned in Castlebar and Claremorris Garda stations under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The arrests follow a night of violence in the Mayo town of Ballinrobe, where four men were attacked in two separate incidents in the early hours of Sunday last. Two men were assaulted by a group of men at around 3.30am, and one of the victims was subsequently transferred to the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin with serious head injuries. He is understood to be in a stable condition. The second man was also hospitalised with injuries and was released a short time later.

Shortly after this attack, two men were assaulted and stabbed by a group of men. Both received stab wounds to the neck and are still receiving treatment in hospital.
