Free safety checks for child car seats

Galway Childcare Committee has joined forces with the Road Safety Authority to highlight child road safety.

Hot on the heels of its recent “Beep Beep” training initiative organised in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority (RSA ), the committee is encouraging parents to avail of the authority’s “Check it fits” roadshow. This takes place at the Galway Shopping Centre on Friday September 11 from 10am to 5pm.

“We are inviting parents to get their child’s car seat checked free by coming along in your car with your car seat and child, and experts will make sure your child is safe,” explains Rosario Ní Shúilleabháin, information officer with Galway Childcare Committee. “According to the RSA three out of four child car seats are not fitted correctly which can cause death or serious injury. Advance Pitstop will also be on site offering a free five-point safety check on your car.”

Mary Giblin, co-ordinator of Galway City and County Childcare Committee, is urging parents to avail of this service.

“Galway City and County Childcare Committee is working in conjunction with the RSA to organise these events to raise awareness about the importance of child road safety. Every parent should avail of the opportunity to have their car seats expertly fitted as well as taking advantage of the opportunity to have a free five-point safety check.”
