IT IS often said that sad blokes make better albums than happy blokes, and while many music fans may concur with that, Cork indie-pop greats Fred beg to differ.
The Cork quartet take all the anguish, angst, and pain out of rock’n’roll, opting instead to inject their music with an irresistibly positive and upbeat vibe. As the NME said: “There’s no resisting this stuff unless you're a tone-deaf, stone-hearted, know-nothing...Blissed out, loved-up and goddamn down and out funky, Fred we love you.”
Fred - Eibhilín (piano ), Jamie (guitar ), Justin (drums ), Joseph (vocals ), and Jamin (bass ) - have released three albums, Can’t Stop I’m Being Timed (2002 ), Making Music So You Don’t Have To (2005 ), and Go God Go (2008 ). Their musical influences include Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, The Beach Boys, Wilco, and The Flaming Lips.
Fred played their debut show in Canada at NXNE in 2008 before playing PopMontreal and the Halifax Pop Explosion. Not for a band Drop D magazine considered “one of Ireland’s finest live acts”.
