Andy Irvine and his Australian friends at The Crane

THE GREAT Andy Irvine returns to Galway to play The Crane Bar, Sea Road, on Wednesday July 23 at 9pm and he will be bringing his Australian friends with him.

In 2004 Andy toured with Australia musicians James Fagan, Nancy Kerr, Kate Burke, and Ruth Hazleton to great acclaim. Last year he performed with The Wise Family Band from Western Australia.

Now it’s time for the Aussies’ to head north to Ireland, so James, Nancy, Kate, and Ruth, along with fiddle player/singer Adrian Barker, will join Andy in Galway.

Nancy Kerr (fiddle, viola and vocal ) and her partner James Fagan (bouzouki and vocal ) play traditional and contemporary acoustic music drawn mostly from the English and Australian-Irish traditions. They are renowned for their beautiful instrumentals, strong harmony singing, original arrangements and their love of live performance.

Kate Burke (guitar, fiddle, vocal ) and Ruth Hazleton (guitar, five string banjo, vocal ) are one of Australia’s most exciting young folk acts. Their material draws on the music of Australia, Britain, Ireland, and America, coupled with contemporary songwriting.

Adrian and Kate play together in a band called Trouble In The Kitchen, winners of the 2008 Best Folk Album Award from the Australian National Film and Sound Archive.
