Gardai are renewing their appeal for witnesses who may shed some light on how the single vehicle crash occurred at Gort na hAbhainn, Athenry, on Saturday last between 11.15pm and 11.30pm.

Gardai say that what is known is that 25-year-old Saffron Richie died instantly when the silver Rover she was driving lost control on the narrow road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger, Ms Richie’s older sister Elisa, escaped the crash with minor injuries. Two units of the Athenry fire brigade along with gardai and ambulance services attended the scene.
