GARDAI refused to accept that a woman who was ordered to sell her car was complying when she signed the car over to her mother who lived at the same address.
The woman was caught driving twice within days of being put off the road and was remanded in custody last week from Ballinasloe Court to appear from prison again before Judge James Faughnan in Tuam on Tuesday.
The Judge told her in Ballinasloe that there would be no bail until she sold her car.
He said his priority was public safety and he was not going to take a chance by letting the defendant out again to drive around uninsured.
“I thought this was all done and dusted,” Ms Lynskey protested, pleading that she lived out in the country and had family obligations which required transport.
In Tuam, Garda Sgt Christy Brown insisted that signing over and selling a car were two different things and he wanted to see the car physically gone from the defendant’s home.
Before the Judge was Amanda Lynskey, Barnaboy, Laurencetown, Ballinasloe who argued she had to sign the car over to her mother so she could sell it. She was already in the process of taxing it in order to be able to sell it.
The Judge asked if her mother could come to Court to verify all this but the defendant asked how her mother could come if she wasn’t allowed to drive.
“You promised not to drive but you were caught driving two days in a row just after that promise,” the Judge said.
Sgt Brown said he wanted the car gone from the home and that was the end of it. “You’re a very bad man,” Ms Lynskey told him as she was led back to the prison ban.
Adjourning matter until the November 5 sitting of Ballinasloe Court Judge Faughnan told her “have your mother there”. Her response was inaudible.
