SIPTU conference to be held in Galway today

SIPTU’s Public Administration and Community Division Biennial Delegate Conference will take place at the Galway Bay Hotel from 1pm today Thursday, October 22 bringing together over 150 accredited delegates representing workers across local authorities, education, community and State-related sectors.

The conference will be opened by Mayor of Galway Helen Ogbu and delegates will hear addresses from SIPTU General Secretary John King and MEP Aodhán Ó Ríordáin.

Conference motions will speak to key issues including outsourcing, precarious employment, collective bargaining and union recognition, the protection of jobs in the face of artificial intelligence, public sector pensions and adequate funding for further and higher education.

The conference takes place amid the ongoing public sector dispute, with emergency motions relating to the dispute expected to be tabled for consideration by delegates.
