Carmina return with Crane Bar show and new album

THE BRITISH jazz-folk band Carmina return to Ireland to play The Crane Bar, Sea Road, on Thursday July 24 at 9pm.

Drawing on English folk, Irish music, and jazz, Carmina is centred around Pippa Marland (vocals, sax, whistles ) and Rob King (acoustic guitars, bodhran, mandola ). On tour they are joined by Geoff Castle (piano, synth, vocals ), Diarmaid Moynihan (uilleann pipes, whistles ), and Julian Nicholas (saxophones, whistles, percussion ).

The band won much acclaim when they emerged onto the scene in the early 1990s, with their Donal Lunny produced debut album. Their latest album My Crescent City, sees Lunny return to the producers chair.

“Ireland remains the most special territory for us,” says Rob King. “It was there our career began. We have also just signed a new publishing deal with Peter Gabriel’s company Real World, and they have this month brought out a radio EP of tracks from the album.”
