Renmore History Society launches landmark 25th anniversary season with exploration of Middle East history

The Renmore History Society is proud to announce the launch of its new 2026/2027 season, marking a major milestone as it celebrates 25 years of sharing local and international historical knowledge.

Since its founding in 2002, the Society has grown into one of Galway’s most prominent history and social groups. This special anniversary season promises an extraordinary lineup of subjects that covers both complex global and political histories to important local heritage.

To mark a quarter-century of historical exploration, the Society is launching a unique two- part series titled “History of the Middle East”, which will be spread across the first two talks of the season, given by their expert resident speaker Brian MacGabhann.

“Reaching our 25th anniversary is a remarkable testament to Galway’s enduring passion for history,” said Richard O’Hanlon, Chairperson of the Renmore History Society. “Over the last two and a half decades, we have explored everything from local townland heritage to major global historical events. We are thrilled to open this milestone year with a comprehensive, two-part look at the complicated history of the Middle East.”

The Renmore History Society looks forward to welcoming both familiar faces and new members to enjoy and discover history in a friendly and social atmosphere.

The new season officially kicks off on Thursday, 15 October 2026, At the Connacht Hotel with registration starting at 7.30.
