Samszyy is West’s best for DJ battle

DJ Samszyy will represent Connacht at the Red Bull Turn It Up national final in Dublin next month.

He took the regional title in the national vinyl spinners competition in front of a sold-out crowd at Monroe’s Live last Saturday, after battling three of the region’s top DJ talents

The pressure was on from the first track as Rookie, Samszyy, John Murphy and Bongani went head-to-head, switching up their sounds and battling to take control of the dancefloor. With the Galway crowd calling the shots, every drop, switch-up and big moment counted as the DJs fought for their place in the National Final.

Round by round, the DJs were thrown new themes with little warning, from ‘Around the World’ and ‘Karaoke Night’, through to ‘Unexpected Classics’ and ‘Trad Meets Modern’. The four DJs were pushed to test their range, reacting to each challenge and switching up their sound as they battled to generate the best buzz in a packed house.

As the final showdown came down to John Murphy and DJ Samszyy, the deciding vote went to DJ Samszyy, who took the Connacht title and booked a place in the National Final.

Host Leah Hayden Cassidy kept the night moving, with reigning Continental champion DJ Onai hyping up the crowd between sets.

Originally from Ennis, Co Clare, but now living in Galway, Samszyy joins Cork champion, Tuáthla, and Dublin winner, Dacosta, in the Red Bull Turn It Up National Final on November 5 at Dublin’s Button Factory.

The fourth and last competitor will be decided in Belfast on October 15.
