Athenry AC officially launched the 25th Fields of Athenry 10k under the town's iconic arch.
Taking place once again on St Stephen's Day, December 26, the Fields of Athenry 10k has become a firm Christmas tradition for runners, walkers, and families from across Galway and further afield. Marking its 25th edition, Athenry AC announced Arch Health as the event's new sponsor.
For the first time in the race’s history, there will be a cash prize on offer for athletes who can break the existing male or female course records. The men’s record of 29:32 was set by Hugh Armstrong in 2019, while Ava Crean set the women’s record of 33:40 in 2025.
For the 25th race, the event’s coveted finisher T-shirts are being extended from the top 50 to the top 100 finishers. The race’s famous Fields of Athenry hat will return for 2026, but the colour remains firmly under wraps for now.
"The Fields of Athenry has become a real Christmas tradition over the past 25 races. Every year we see people returning to Athenry, families taking part together and runners and walkers of all abilities joining us on St Stephen’s Day," said race director Maeve Noone.
"Last year was our biggest event yet, and we’re always looking for ways to make the experience even better. We’re really excited to mark our 25th race and delighted to welcome Arch Health on board as a new sponsor for such a special year," she added.
Following a record-breaking 2025 event, demand for this year’s race is already strong. Early-bird entries have long since sold out, and with the Fields of Athenry selling out each year, organisers are encouraging anyone planning to take part to secure their place early.
