A new documentary detailing the “calculated dismantling of life itself” in Gaza is screening at the Town Hall Theatre for one night only on October 8, at 8pm, with a special Q&A afterward featuring Dr Victoria Rose, Prof. Nick Maynard, and Alaa Alqaisi.
Life Support, directed by Daniele Rugo, follows a group of international doctors breaching the blockade.
Covering the entire two years of genocide, their firsthand accounts and visceral footage offer a rare and vital chronicle of healthcare workers as they navigate bombed-out hospitals, dwindling supplies, starvation, and the overwhelming influx of casualties - predominantly women and children.
The screening is hosted by local advocacy groups Pilgrims for Palestine and Steps 4 Peace.
Dr. Victoria Rose is a plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in reconstructive surgery. Beyond her NHS and private work, Dr Rose has been actively involved in humanitarian surgical missions in Gaza since 2018. As a trustee of the charity IDEALS, she travels to hospitals in Gaza to perform reconstructive surgery on civilians, particularly children, affected by conflict.
Prof. Nick Maynard, a a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Associate Professor of Surgery at Oxford University, first visited Palestine in 2008. Prof. Maynard is Chair of the Board of Trustees of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP UK ), and last year was awarded the Humanitarian Medal by the UK Government for his humanitarian work in Gaza, receiving his award from King Charles at Buckingham Palace in February 2025.
Alaa Alqaisi is a Palestinian translator, writer, and researcher from Gaza. She holds an MA in
Translation Studies and is a PhD researcher at Trinity College Dublin. Her work appears in ArabLit, The Nation, Literary Hub, Berlin Review, The Key, and Poetry Ireland, and focuses on literary translation, resistance, and survival.
