A man who was brought before a specially convened sitting of Clifden District Court on Saturday morning and was remanded in custody, told Galway District Court on Monday morning that he wasn’t interested in getting bail and wanted to get his prison sentence over with.
The defendant told Judge Tom McSharry that he would have made this clear in Clifden on Saturday, but he was unable to contact his solicitor because it was the weekend.
When the issue of granting bail was raised, the accused, addressing Galway District Court via video-link from prison, informed the judge that he had no interest in applying for bail as “I have a good few charges, and I want to get my sentence out of the way as soon as possible.”
Judge McSharry remanded the defendant in custody to appear again before the Court on October 12, when the directions of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be outlined.
