Pelvic Health West has expanded its breast health services with the launch of Posture Fitting, a 75-minute physiotherapy consultation designed to help women optimise posture, function and bra fit.
Are you wearing the right-sized bra?
One hundred per cent of women are in the wrong-sized bra, according to Posture Fitting nationwide. Support of the breast tissue can influence posture and, in turn, breast pain, breathing mechanics, pelvic floor function, back pain, movement, sports performance and confidence in clothing. Despite its importance, many of us have never been taught how to identify an optimally fitting bra.
Posture fitting
During a Posture Fitting consultation, Orlaith Kilgannon, specialist physiotherapist, assesses posture before introducing practical strategies that can be incorporated into everyday life. The session also teaches women what to look for when fitting themselves for a supportive day and sports bra, giving them the confidence to make informed choices when shopping.
The results? Instantaneous! Feel taller, more supported, relieve back pain and see your waist.
“I am proud to say that Pelvic Health West will be the first physiotherapy service globally to offer lactation support and Posture Fitting in conjunction," Orlaith Kilgannon said. "I have seen breastfeeding mothers have great success and resolution of blocked ducts, engorgement and mastitis with therapeutic ultrasound, education, massage and taping now offered at Pelvic Health West. However, I see first-hand how unsupported these women are in maternity bras and the difficulties they face in returning to exercise with increased breast weight and sensitivity.”
Posture Fitting is not just for breastfeeding mothers. Supportive, well-fitting bras and good postural habits are relevant throughout life. If you experience back or breast discomfort, feel unsupported in your breast weight, or want to improve your support when exercising, a Posture Fitting consultation could be just the right “fit” for you.
