For the first time since 2024, members of the public interested in volunteering are being invited to the Galway City Volunteer Recruitment Fair in the Salthill Hotel on Sunday October 11 between 2pm and 5pm. There will be up to 40 charities and community organisations from across the city at the Fair, which is being organised by Galway Volunteer Centre. At the last Fair in February 2024, approximately 1000 people attended the event to speak to organisations about the work that they do and the volunteer roles that they are trying to fill.
This year’s Volunteer Fair is being supported by Galway City Council, and the Department of Rural and Community Development, and the Gaeltacht. Mayor of Galway City, Councillor Helen Ogbu encouraged people living across the city to pay a visit. ‘We have fantastic charities and community organisations in Galway City and volunteering can be a great way to learn new skills and make new friends, while also making a contribution to the valuable work that these organisations do throughout the year.
Donncha Foley, Development Manager of Galway Volunteer Centre stated that this was a unique opportunity for members of the public to find out what is happening in their community and see how they can get involved.
‘There will be a wide variety of volunteer roles available to suit people’s own busy schedules. We would encourage people to come along and speak to the charities, find out about the great work that they are doing and how you can get involved and be part of it’.
Since 2006 Galway Volunteer Centre has been supporting members of the public to find suitable volunteer roles in Galway City and County through selecting roles on our daily updated list of volunteer opportunities that it advertises on behalf of non-profits and community organisations in Galway.
The Galway Volunteer Centre team supports people to help them choose volunteer roles that match their interests and availability. ‘We are always amazed by the amount of people who come to us with a desire to do something to help others, and we provide a confidential service that gets people doing something that they like and benefits others at the same time’, said Donncha.
