There was a satisfactory outcome for the owner of an (allegedly ) stolen bicycle, but not so for the alleged thief, as he is to come before Galway District Court in relation to his alleged night rider activity.
The bike went missing on the night of October 23 last at 1am, the court heard, and an accused man will go on trial for its alleged misappropriation.
The tale began when the owner of the bike returned to where it had been left on Quay Street and there it was – gone!
The theft was reported immediately to Gardaí, and an eagle-eyed member of the force on patrol later that night spotted a bike of that description outside a city address.
He knocked to make inquiries and encountered an individual who assured him he had “borrowed” the bike but would be willing to pay for it, Judge Fiona Lydon was told this week.
The bike was returned to the owner and it will be alleged when the alleged borrower of the machine comes before Galway District Court on October 19 that the bike hadn’t been borrowed, but actually stolen.
This one will require the judgement of Solomon.
