Just as the French dessert of Café Gourmand comprises a selection of bite-size puddings, Piano Gourmand presents two hugely talented international piano competition winners. Both will perform a one-hour piano recital each, with tea and buns available in between for those attending both concerts.
They are Frenchman Paul Lecocq and Canadian Carter Johnson – winners of the Clara Haskil and the Dublin International Piano Competition respectively.
Their wide-ranging programmes coalesce around one of the most fascinating and inspiring composers of the 19th century: Robert Schumann. They also express works by Bach, Beethoven, Bartók and a piece by Judith Ring, commissioned for last year’s Dublin competition.
Lecocq has established himself as one of the most gifted pianists of his generation. He is regularly invited to appear in leading festivals and concert series.
Canadian pianist Johnson is known for making classical music speak to all kinds of audiences. His playing has been described as “sincere, communicative, and intelligent”, “drop-dead gorgeous”, and even “the greatest thing since sliced bread”. (Gramophone )
The concerts can be booked separately, but for those who want to stay for both, this aural feast will be augmented with tea, coffee and scones between the concerts.
