Galway’s international literary magazine, Crannóg, will launch its 65th issue next Friday, September 25 in the The Crane Bar on Sea Road, at 6.30pm.
This issue is packed with eight stories and 34 poems and has a particularly strong local connection.
There are short stories and poems by many Galway writers including Hugo Kelly, Aoibheann McCann, Alan McMonagle, Attracta Fahy, Pete Mullineaux, Emily Cullen and Mary Lee. The beautiful cover image is by well-known artist Patricia Byrne.
Crannóg is published by Wordsonthestreet, and appears each March and September.
Each year the Crannóg editors nominate three poets for the prestigious Forward Prize in Britain, and nominate three poets and three fiction writers for the US-based Pushcart Prize.
In addition, one contributor to each issue of Crannóg is granted a bursary of €1,500 to assist their writing career. For Issue 65, this bursary is awarded to Bernadette Lynch to enable her to carry out a literary project on her Roscommon-based great-grandmother. The bursary is generously sponsored by the poet Marian Kilcoyne.
This issue also includes three winners of the inaugural Pushbike Prize for flash fiction in memory of story-teller and musician Paddy O’Dwyer with a prize fund of €1,500. Each winner receives €500 and the prize is generously sponsored by Tristan O’Dwyer grand-nephew of Paddy O’Dwyer. Submissions open on May 1 of each year, and will remain open for 500 hours until May 21.
